Jerry Emery

Jerry Richard EMERY Jr. (1960 - 2016)   (Age 56) Of Hayden, Idaho, passed away at his home December 22, 2016. His death was unexpected and much too soon, but his family takes solace in knowing he is up there making the loved ones who passed before him laugh their asses off.Jerry, a loving husband, father, grandfather, son, brother and friend, was born in Spokane, Washington, on May 4, 1960 to parents Jerry Richard Emery Sr. and Bonnie Joyce (Dschaak) Jacobs. The second of five children, Jerry was a family man from an early age and loved spending time with his siblings and friends.Jerry attended Mead High School (class of 1979) where he was on the wrestling and football teams until, as he tells the story, a career ending knee injury ended his run at the NFL.Shortly after graduation he met the love of his life, Debbie (Day). Together they shared 31 years of marriage, enduring love and friendship. They had four daughters, Amanda, Lindsey, Amber and Sarah, who he loved unconditionally.Jerry spent nearly 20 years as a truck driver for Safeway Inc., taking home numerous accolades during his career for safe driving practices and years of service.Jerry was happiest while fishing, and in October 2016 he visited Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, with his family where he took a once-in-a-lifetime chartered fishing trip. Video from the excursion shows Jerry hollering as they snagged a marlin on the line, "Atta boy! This made my trip!" He dreamed of buying a 36-footer after retirement in order to start his own fishing charter and spread his love for the sport.Summer days were spent on the boat where he took breaks from playing cribbage with his wife to whip his daughters around on the tube, with songs of Kenny Chesney blaring in the background. There was nothing Jerry loved more than firing up the barbeque on a warm summer evening and rolling around in the grass with his grandchildren while his wife and daughters laughed and cooked in the kitchen. Jerry's girls were his world. When he wasn't behind the wheel of his semi, he did everything he could to make their lives easier. From watching the grandkids to repairing their cars, to taking their minds off the day-to-day with his raunchy humor-he did all he could to be there for them. He was, and always will be, a true family man.Jerry was preceded in death by his mother, Bonnie Joyce (Dschaak) Jacobs; his sister Melinda Ann Emery; and his nephew Brandon L. Dunkle. He is survived by his loving wife, Debbie Emery; children Amanda Emery, Lindsey Emery, Amber (Ray) Lyon, and Sarah Emery. He also leaves behind his grandchildren Natalie, Abel, Landon and soon-to-be Grayson; father Jerry R. Emery, Sr.; and siblings Rick Emery, Laura Emery, and Jennifer Jacobs.A Celebration of Life will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, January 7, 2017 at the BELL TOWER FUNERAL HOME, 3398 E JENALAN AVE, POST FALLS, ID 83854.
